BARNABAS COMMUNITY PROJECTS
Shrewsbury Food Bank is run by a group of volunteers who organise and distribute parcels of donated food to individuals and families every week.
We seek to help those that find themselves in times of real hardship by addressing their most basic of needs - food.
Food banks are an essential service in communities across the country and in the last few years they have helped thousands of people in need. Through food bank PLUS, Shrewsbury Food Bank is now able to help people beyond the short term fix and empower them to help themselves.
There are two food bank locations in Shrewsbury, one at Barnabas Church Centre and one at Hope Church. For opening times, see below.
There are many varied circumstances that bring people along to the food bank, often they have been caught in the trap of debt or lost their job, suffered ill health, family breakdown, bereavement, delays in benefits or homelessness. Sometimes it's a combination of many issues, but whoever they are and however they come to us, if their need is genuine we will give them food and encouragement.
Regular food donations:
You can help by donating long life foods and other important items. Check the items in demand list on the right - we update this regularly.
We accept donations all year round and there is normally someone on site between 9am and 4pm during the week.
We currently have large stocks of the following items and so do not require further donations of the following items at the moment:
Baked beans, fish
We have developed sustainable projects that have a lasting impact and that is why we are part of Foodbank PLUS. Your regular gifts to Foodbank PLUS will enable us to plan ahead and develop the projects that help our clients in the longer term.
You can also help by volunteering on the Foodbank team, if you are interested call Karen Williams on 01743 343336

The majority of our clients are referred to us by an agency. If you are an agency and have clients that you believe need to use the food bank you may apply for vouchers directly from Shrewsbury Food Bank by emailing firstname.lastname@example.org or calling 01743 343336. Doctors and churches can also refer people to the food bank and apply for vouchers in the same way.
If you are in need of food and have not been referred to us by an agency or your GP, you can contact us for advice on how you may be able to get food vouchers.
We are only able to give food parcels in exchange for vouchers and provision is at the discretion of food bank volunteers.
BCP is about changing lives and enriching community. We run a wide range of holistic and relational projects which seeks to empower people on their journey of personal transformation.
